Persephone is the Dread Queen of the Underworld. Wife of Hades, She holds power over the shades of the Dead. Of the Underworld Gods, She is one of the most terrifying, often being referred to not by Her name, but by Kore which means “maiden” because She alone has the power to release all the Dead from Hades, allowing corpses to rise for the grave. Yet, She has a more benevolent side as Goddess of Spring, Her ascension from the Underworld at the beginning of the Light Half of the Year bringing back the abundance of Nature.
